Nathan has performed onstage and camera for over ten years. But his proudest artistic achievement is producing 6 years of ‘The Birth.’ Through it he has grown as an artist and as a human being. It has afforded opportunities such as being asked to be on the National Advisory Board for the Buechner Institute at King College in Tennessee as well as meeting ‘Fred’ himself in January of 2010. Nathan has nothing but gratitude to Buechner for giving the words that inspire this show; to his wife, Tracey, who encourages and allows him to pursue his dreams and ambitions to infinity and beyond; and to the wildest miracles of them all, his daughters, Lucy and Penny, who astonish him daily with their brazen wonder and helpless hope.
And to you, who have helped grow this tiny show in a tiny theater space 6 years ago to something lasting and mystical.
By God, it’s good, brothers. The mud. The crust. Everything.
Everything.

A Charlotte native, James has appeared with local and regional theater companies in dozens of productions. He is a nationally recognized voice actor and writer. Recent theater credits include Teddy in ‘Faith Healer’ with Starving Artist and as Clem Rogers in ‘Will Rogers’ Follies’ with CPCC. He also serves on the Advisory Board for the Department of Theater and Dance at Appalachian State University.

Kate is honored to be dancing in The Birth for her, and its, sixth year. It has become one of her favorite Christmas traditions; ranking up there with Kit-Kats in her stocking in memory of Memaw, family ornaments on the tree, and pancakes on Christmas day.
Kate has been dancing for 20 years. She would like to thank her brother, Nathan, for allowing her to be a part of this extraordinary show. She is glad he does not know many dancers and, thus, called her about this role 6+ years ago.
Kate would also like to thank Richard for his faithful support; and of course, her parents for making the trip from GA and paying for all those years of dance. When not dancing, Kate stays busy as a Digital Media Coordinator for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Shelley made her Christmas musical debut at church, when she played a singing angel at age 5. By day, she works for the President’s Office at Winthrop University (Go Eagles!) in Rock Hill. This is her 5th year as a member of ‘The Birth’ cast. Being a part of this show reminds her to slow down and reflect on the miracle of the Incarnation. Her favorite Christmas tradition is taking a self-guided “tacky Christmas lights” tour to track down the biggest and best light displays in town.
Heaps of thanks to Jerod, her husband, who lends her out during December. And extra hugs to her sweet little guy, Shepard.
May you ever always sense the One who is holding your hand down here in the muck and misery and marvel of this world.

A ramblin’ man from birth, Rodney was walking at 7 months. Not long after that a song started playing in his head. Rhythm haunts him every second. Backed by a drum beat and a blues riff; bottle neck slide. It started with a simple foot tap and head nod. He learned how to manipulate a full drum kit by watching videos on MTV in the early ’90′s.
Rodney has been married for ten years and has two young boys. This is his fifth year with The Birth. He met Jesus in the back alley of life and walked right into His open arms, drunk on love. His calling is to create beats with anything that will make a sound.

At age 12, Josh bought an old acoustic guitar, an Eddie Van Halen knock-off electric, and an amp that took up half of his bedroom. After eight months of lessons and a lot of noise, he sold it all off. Before leaving for college, he crossed paths with Dan, the kid who bought his gear six years back, and reclaimed his acoustic – for an extra $50 than the original cost, of course. Josh has been playing ever since.
He now works at Vanguard, managing a team of investment professionals. He has two little ones, and a wife that keeps it all running smoothly. Josh is entering his fourth year with The Birth, and feels like he’s now proficient enough to take on the role of the Innkeeper … or maybe the Dancer … or maybe he should just keep playing guitar.

Hailing from the green rugged lands of Scotland, Sarah is a seasoned singer/songwriter and worship leader now living in North Carolina, where she balances her life as a mother of two little boys and as a worship pastor at Renovatus Church. Her upcoming album, “The Pilgrim Way,” a collection of original and rearranged hymns, is due to release Fall 2011.
Over the life of The Birth, Sarah has contributed her own songs (“Mary” and “Shepherd Song”), and this year is excited and honored to be taking part in person for the very first time.
