The Birth was inspired by a reading of Pulitzer-nominated author Frederick Buechner’s book ‘The Magnificent Defeat’ wherein, in a chapter titled The Birth, he composes a series of character monologues in the voice of those closest to the narrative of Christ’s arrival.
The Birth was first staged in 2006 and has continued to grow and evolve each year. This year is no exception as, in addition to adding songwriter Sarah DeShields and actor James K. Flynn to the troupe, we also will be performing at our largest venue ever – Duke Energy Theater in Uptown Charlotte.
